Rockland and Buffalo Trainings
In 1978, VCS Inc. developed the first batterer program in NYS. Ten years later, VCS partnered with Catholic Charities of Buffalo NY to best resolve controversy generated by batterer programs regarding their purpose. Were programs effective as treatment and rehabilitation? If not – were they good for anything – or did they actually make things worse by compromising the safety of battered women?

During these same years, issues and questions regarding offender accountability were emerging.  Was offender accountability accomplished by discussing it in groups?  Was it a practice to be implemented across criminal justice, chemical dependency and other settings?  After decades of networking, research and experience, the answers resulted in the development of the NY Model for Batterer Programs.  The training will provide simple and replicable practices that bring real meaning to the concept of offender accountability.

Measurable outcomes support the efficacy of NY Model batterer programs.

Who Should Attend
The training is designed for criminal justice personnel including magistrates, prosecutors, all who work in courts, probation and community supervision officers, defense bar, and domestic violence advocates. This training is also for those who work in batterer programs and with domestic violence offenders in the widest range of other venues.
